To help to understand the modelling process that occurs when a scaffold is implanted it is vital to understand the rather complex bone remodelling process prevalent in native bone. We have formulated a mathematical model that predicts osteoactivity both in scaffolds, as well as in bone in vivo and could set a basis for the more detailed allosteric models. The model is extended towards a bio-cybernetic vision of basic multicellular unit (BMU) action, when some of the regulation loops have been modified to reflect the allosteric control mechanisms, developed by Michaels-Menten, Hill, Koshland-Nemethy-Filmer, Monod-Wyman-Changeux. By implementation of this approach a four-dimensional system was obtained that shows steady cyclic behaviour using a wide range of constants with clear biological meaning. We have observed that a local steady state appears as a limiting cycle in multi-dimensional phase space and this is discussed in this paper. Physiological interpretation of this limiting four-dimension cycle possibly related to a conservative-like value has been proposed. Analysis and simulation of the model has shown an analogy between this conservative value, as a kind of substrate-energy regenerative potential of the bone remodelling system with a molecular nature, and to the classical physical value--energy. This dynamic recovery potential is directed against both mechanical and biomechanical damage to the bone. Furthermore, the current model has credibility when compared to the normal bone remodelling process. In the framework of widely recognised Hill mechanisms of allosteric regulation the cyclic attractor, described formerly for a pure cellular model, prevails for different forms of feedback control. This result indicates the viability of the proposed existence of a conservative value (analogous to energy) that characterises the recovery potential of the bone remodelling cycle. Increasing evidence indicates that the gastrin-releasing peptide receptor (GRPR) is implicated in regulating synaptic plasticity
and memory formation in the hippocampus and other brain areas. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying the memory-impairing
effects of GRPR antagonism have remained unclear. Here we report that basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF/FGF-2) rescues
the memory impairment induced by GRPR antagonism in the rat dorsal hippocampus. The GRPR antagonist [D-Tpi6, Leu13 psi(CH2NH)-Leu14] bombesin (6–14) (RC-3095) at 1.0 μg impaired, whereas bFGF at 0.25 μg enhanced, 24 h retention of inhibitory avoidance (IA)
when infused immediately after training into the CA1 hippocampal area in male rats. Coinfusion with an otherwise ineffective
dose of bFGF blocked the memory-impairing effect of RC-3095. These findings suggest that the memory-impairing effects of GRPR
antagonists might be partially mediated by an inhibition in the function and/or expression of neuronal bFGF or diminished

In this paper, an SEIS epidemic model is proposed to study the effect of transport-related infection on the spread and control of infectious disease. New result implies that traveling of the exposed (means exposed but not yet infectious) individuals can bring disease from one region to other regions even if the infectious individuals are inhibited from traveling among regions. It is shown that transportation among regions will change the disease dynamics and break infection out even if infectious diseases will go to extinction in each isolated region without transport-related infection. In addition, our analysis shows that transport-related infection intensifies the disease spread if infectious diseases break out to cause an endemic situation in each region, in the sense of that both the absolute and relative size of patients increase. Until a vaccine against the new strain becomes available, the response to newly emerged pandemic influenza will consist of the use of antiviral drugs and measures that limit exposure to infectious individuals. These first-line defence measures include isolating cases upon diagnosis, reducing close contacts, the use of personal protective equipment and hygiene, and using antiviral drugs for treatment and prophylaxis. There are significant 'costs' associated with control measures, so to justify such interventions it is important to assess their potential to reduce transmission. In this paper, we determine the effect that a number of different antiviral interventions have on the reproduction number of infectives and the probability that an imported infection fades out, and determine parameter scenarios for which these interventions are able to eliminate an emerging pandemic of influenza. We also assess the role that health care workers play in transmission and the extent to which providing them with antiviral prophylaxis and personal protective equipment modifies this role. Our results indicate that this class requires protection to avoid a greatly disproportionate contribution to early infective numbers, and for the maintenance of a stable health care system. An integro-differential equation is proposed to model a general relapse phenomenon in infectious diseases including herpes. The basic reproduction number R(0) for the model is identified and the threshold property of R(0) established. For the case of a constant relapse period (giving a delay differential equation), this is achieved by conducting a linear stability analysis of the model, and employing the Lyapunov-Razumikhin technique and monotone dynamical systems theory for global results. Age and sex structured HIV/AIDS model with explicit incubation period is proposed as a system of delay differential equations.
The model consists of two age groups that are children (0–14 years) and adults (15–49 years). Thus, the model considers both
mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) and heterosexual transmission of HIV in a community. MTCT can occur prenatally, at labour
and delivery or postnatally through breastfeeding. In the model, we consider the children age group as a one-sex formulation
and divide the adult age group into a two-sex structure consisting of females and males. The important mathematical features
of the model are analysed. The disease-free and endemic equilibria are found and their stabilities investigated. We use the
Lyapunov functional approach to show the local stability of the endemic equilibrium. Qualitative analysis of the model including
positivity and boundedness of solutions, and persistence are also presented. The basic reproductive number (ℛ0) for the model shows that the adult population is responsible for the spread HIV/AIDS epidemic, thus up-to-date developed
HIV/AIDS models to assess intervention strategies have focused much on heterosexual transmission by the adult population and
the children population has received little attention. We numerically analyse the HIV/AIDS model to assess the community benefits
of using antiretroviral drugs in reducing MTCT and the effects of breastfeeding in settings with high HIV/AIDS prevalence
